AV Boutique Hotel - a two star hotel that delivers more.

This small hotel is the best. It is so close to Milano Centrale train station that it takes only 5 minutes to walk there. The room we stayed in was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. The bed and the pillows were oh, so comfortable with crisp white linen. The hotel is surrounded by cafes and restaurants (just across the road). Brian, the manager is kindness itself. He provided us with spot on recommendations for restaurants and cafes, and assisted us with the range of queries we had in our jet lagged state when we arrived. AV hotel is a two star hotel - so don’t expect fluffy bathrobes, a swimming pool and a business Centre. What it does do, it does very well. We will be staying there again on our return to Milan.

The room is tiny. The queen size bed is actually a full size and there are no outlets in the room except one on the other side of the room from the bed...we had to unplug the only lamp in the room to use it. Needless to say, we have no way to plug in my husband's C-PAP machine or anything else that requires an electrical outlet. Also the heat doesn't go below 71 degrees. The only way to make it less hot in here is to turn it off altogether!

Despite me booking months in advance from Australia, the hotel unilaterally cancelled my reservation even though I twice advised I was unable to complete two factor ID for pre authorisation of my credit card as I lacked phone roaming. I fronted at reception but Bryan said all rooms were booked. I was unimpressed but found another hotel nearby that was a bit more expensive.

Accommodating and very helpful staff who let us check in early and check out late at no extra cost. The location was perfect, directly opposite Central Station and a Metro stop, with a Lidl and plenty of cafes/ restaurants around. Like most stations in Europe there are homeless people around but this was no issue. The hotel is easy to find but it’s not staffed 24 hours. The rooms are spacious, clean and well decorated. There is a safe in the room but no fridge which would have been welcomed in the summer heat. Staff let us chill our drinks in the main fridge however we had to remember to get them before staff left for the night. Bed was comfy and not too much noise from the main road outside. Only downsides - TV was small and placed really high on the wall, bathroom was small and shower isn’t suitable for anyone of a larger/taller build. Would recommend.

Over the decades, we have decided that being close to a city's main train station is an important criterion for choosing our lodging. This place is an easy walk from Milano Centrale -- but it could be missed if you don't know exactly where to look! Once we got there, it was a nice stay. Even when using Google{R} maps and standing literally in front of the entrance, I had trouble locating this place, simply because the entrance is a door used by several businesses, and only a relatively small sign identifying that AV Hotel as one of those businesses. To get to that door after exiting Milano Centrale, (1) cross the main street in front of the stations's plaza, (2) turn left and walk on the sidewalk until you get to BPM (Banco Populare Milano), (3) turn right at this intersection to get on Via Recante, (4) you'll soon come to a door on the right, next to the cafe and across the street from the pizzeria, labelled "a da recante 2" -- you should see a sign for "AV Boutique Hotel" next to this door, (5) press the door button for this hotel, (6) tell the person that you're an arriving guest to get "buzzed in," and (7) ride the elevator up to the hotel. This sound FAR more complicated than it is, but knowing exactly what to do is a lot better than our feeling lost when standing in front of that door! Our room had a half-bath, phone, AC, hair dryer, free wifi, and TV with over 100 channels -- but none in English. It was clean, quiet, well-maintained, and had a great view of the station. Staff was friendly & professional. Since Milano Centrale is a five minute walk away, you can quickly get to all major tourist stops via Milan's mass transit system. For a wonderful continental breakfast, go next door to the Street Bar, and enjoy a cup of coffee with a pastry & a wonderful owner / server. Even in my short time there, I could tell a lot of regulars come in for their shot of caffeine along with some conversation. Just enjoy the real Italian experience! There are literally 100s of place to eat in this area, but the pizzeria across the street is a good place to start. A mini-mart is just a couple blocks away, where you can get inexpensive cold sodas, juices, and breads. If you want a good place close to Milano Centrale, this is a good choice.
